What’s New at Treefort 11

There are some fairly major changes at the Treefort Music Festival this year, including a big main stage move to Julia Davis and exciting new venues!

Main Stage Move to Julia Davis

The biggest change to Treefort this year is the Treefort Main Stage has found a new home in Julia Davis Park, signaling a new era for the festival. The new location of the main stage, situated along Capitol Boulevard and near the Boise River, promises a fresh, expansive experience for festival-goers.

For the past ten years, the Treefort Main Stage has lived in the Grove and 12th Streets parking lot. As that part of town has been under rapid development in the last year, the usual parking lot is in the process of being replaced with an apartment complex. The Owyhee Hotel’s parking lot, which previously hosted Alefort and Foodfort, is also being transformed into a new boutique hotel.

This does put the main stage quite a bit further away from the rest of the downtown venues, so be sure to check out the section on how to get around below.

Treefort Music Hall

Duck Club Entertainment, the team behind the renowned Treefort Music Festival, has established a cutting-edge music and events venue in Boise that caters to all ages and prioritizes artists. Although Treefort Music Hall’s grand opening is set for June 2023, it will debut during Treefort 11, and visitors can catch their favorite bands and must-see artists there.

Treefort Music Hall is open to everyone and has live music for all five days of Treefort, including Yogafort sessions on Saturday and Sunday mornings. Festival or Single Day Pass holders can attend all shows and Yogafort events, while non-passholders can purchase a Treefort Music Hall Pass ($30/day) based on availability.

New Venues!

There are some very interesting new Treefort venues this year I simply cannot wait to see! It’s fantastic seeing these underused and often forgotten locations being revitalized for festival use. See the Treefort maps below.

Bus Station

The Old Greyhound Bus Station will be the newest venue at Treefort 11, featuring Artfort, music at the Hound Garage and Hound Lot, and Alefort inside the Hound Lounge. Treefort has transformed the old bus station into a world of art, music, and immersive experiences. Mad Alchemy Liquid Light Show will be back to get trippy at both stages.

I’m especially excited about the nightly Cocktail Showcase at the station.

The Hound Garage on the west side of the Bus Station will have live music from Thursday, March 23rd to Sunday, March 26th. The Hound Lot, located in the parking lot of the Bus Station, will offer live music, food, and drinks throughout the week. Don’t miss the Smoke ‘Em If You Got ‘Em: A BBQ with Tuffy Stone on Saturday, March 25th.

Old School

Old School is a temporary venue for Treefort located across the street from Julia Davis Park in the former Foothills School building.

All ages shows will be held in the Old School Atrium. Explore an installation that serves as the Captain’s inter-dimensional treasure room, created by the student-led art collective Second Brain, combining projection, physical structure, and sound to transport visitors to an ethereal realm.

Cyclops

The Cyclops stage is downtown in the parking lot of Freak Alley Gallery near 9th and Bannock. Surrounded bythe Freak Alley murals we know and love, the stage hosts live music from Thursday through Saturday.

The best part is that all shows at the Cyclops stage are free and open to all ages.

The NEW Spacebar

One of my personal favorite Boise bars, Spacebar Arcade, is back after a long remodel hiatus and better than ever!

Get lost in this dimly lit, filled with retro arcade games and all the 8-bit tunes you could ever want. Catch a show from Wednesday through Saturday. Spacebar is a 21+ venue and requires a Festival Pass for entry.

How To Get Around

With the main stage being further away than previous years, learn the best (and safest) ways to travel around town this weekend.

The Best Ways to Travel Treefort

Treeline Shuttle

The Treeline shuttle service is a social and easy way to get from venue to venue during Treefort. The two buses run from 6 pm to 12 am, Wednesday-Saturday. Look for the decorated bus stops throughout downtown. Treeline stops in Julia Davis Park to shuttle to and from the Main Stage. Festival wristbands give free access to Valley Regional Transit bus routes as well.

Bike, skate, walk, or scoot

Biking, skating, and walking are great ways to explore Treefort, especially since Julia Davis Park is right on the Greenbelt! Boise Bicycle Project offers two bike parking stations in the park, and Skatefort is a fun destination. Lime app users get 30% off during Treefort, and Lime provides a scooter corral on-site at Julia Davis Park.

Cars and parking

Driving to Treefort can be a hassle, so consider carpooling or parking near downtown and walking the rest of the way. Daily parking at Boise State or downtown parking garages is available, but note that these areas are for day use only. Parking at Boise State’s Brady Garage costs $5 per day and can be paid for at the parking kiosk by selecting Treefort Music Fest and following the instructions.

Remember to move your car by 10am the following day or risk getting a citation.
