STAFF PICKS

4 pm – 4:40 pm: The Shivas

Performing at The Hideout.
1114 W Front St, Boise, ID 83702

Birthed from a teenage obsession with classic garage rock and ’60s psychedelia, the Shivas morphed into a blurry mesh of punk and surf influences over the course of a prolific release schedule. For The Shivas, the show has always been the thing. That thing being a bombastic, explosive and thoroughly communal live rock and roll experience where barriers between the performers and their audience seem to dissolve into the sweat and sound.

9:00 pm – Wajatta

Performing at the Knitting Factory Boise.
416 S 9th St, Boise, ID 83702

Coming from different worlds, but sharing a passion for the rich history of electronic music, beat-boxer/comedian/musician Reggie Watts and electronic music artist/DJ/producer John Tejada bring out the best in each other’s formidable skill sets. The two describe Wajatta’s music as “electronic dance music with its roots in Detroit techno, Chicago house, ’70s funk and New York hip hop.” It’s a sound that is both familiar and wholly original.

9:20 pm – 10:10 pm: Earthlings Crew

Performing at the Reef.
105 S 6th St, Boise, ID 83702

A dynamic crew of NW Hip Hop MCs and producers, the Earthlings Crew form their connections to the music and art world through underground influences, personal strife and success, a deep respect for hip hop, and the love of meeting and partying with people across the country.

10:10 pm – 11:10 pm: Jacq Maliq

Performing at Capital City Event Center.
622 W Idaho St, Boise, ID 83702

Fresno’s Jacq Maliq is a bright light in the burgeoning indie/rap hybrid scene, playing off of great vocal delivery, percussion, and guitar riffs to build his laid back sound. Maliq shines in a new woodland video, continuing his strong month, preceded by a pair of nice grungy singles covered earlier this week. He is a great artist to keep your eye on as he develops this year and creates a new project to succeed his very impressive debut EP, Homme.

11:00pm – 12:10 am: St. Terrible and the Gospel of Nothingness

Performing at Sanctuary.
1185 W Grove St, Boise, ID 83702

St. Terrible combines elements and genres ranging from experimental folk, psychedelia to ambient minimalism and beyond. Weaving their eclectic sound together with forms of live dance and performance art, St. Terrible creates experiences that are gorgeously strange and existentially rich. It’s an experience you won’t want to miss.

150 N 8th St #226, Boise, ID 83702

Performing at The Balcony, Orographic is a founding member of Bridge Club, Portland’s legendary queer daytime party/DJ collective. He is a fixture in the US queer underground scene and recently made his European debut playing the Genosys stage at Glastonbury with his signature blend of house and techno. Rob is also an in-demand installation artist and founder of Always Never Yesterday.

9 pm – 10pm: Lounge on Fire

Performing at Western Proper.
610 W Idaho St, Boise, ID 83702

A 7-deep battalion with a brass section, fused from the ashes of indie rock, seductive soul, and sexadellic funk, Lounge on Fire is a cacophony of formidable freaks. Rapid and percussive vocals often combine with dark and hypnotic grooves reinforcing a boisterously brassy fanfare to create a unique coalescence of rock, soul, jazz, latin, disco, hip hop, and funk. Lounge on Fire has been noted for their electric live performances that make it impossible to sit physically or emotionally still. This rowdy ensemble channels passion from the roots of the human experience and the dark night of the soul into gyration-inducing anthems.
