First Thursday is here again! This monthly event is one of our favorite downtown happenings. Here are our top picks for where to visit on February’s First Thursday.
Art Source Gallery – This month, Art Source Gallery’s First Thursday is featuring the High School Emerging Artists 9th Juried Exhibition. Reception is from 5-8 pm with the awards presentation at 6:30 pm. Refreshments include Indian Creek Wine and hors d’oeuvers. Music will be by J B Duo and the gallery will show through February 28th.
Boise Art Glass – Create a valentine’s day gift on First Thursday! Make a heart paperweight in a 30-minute hot shop class or a heart pendant in a 1-hour group torch class! Hot shop classes will be held from 4:00 pm – 9:00 pm and can be scheduled every half an hour. Torch classes will be held at 5:00 pm & 6:00 pm, with up to 6 people able to attend each session.
Gallery 601 on the Grove – Gallery 601 is featuring a “Fun with Fabric” show from Jenny Satterthwait and her collection of quilts/wall hangings. Jenny has been quilting for over 25 years. She is currently and has been collage quilting for the past 4 of them. Stop by to visit and view these truly amazing works of art. This show and sale will be held in the Grove Hotel Library/Lobby from 5:00-8:00 pm.
Gallery Cushing Terrell – This month, the artist feature is Dave Thomas. On his work Thomas says, “I’m an abstract painter; I have been painting for 55 years. From my daily studio practice comes discovery, meaning, content, questions, what’s real or unreal, etc. My work projects energy, process, and humor. All I have to say comes from that daily practice, not a preconceived agenda.” The first Thursday reception is from 5 – 8 pm.
Idaho State Museum – Enjoy free admission from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM at the Idaho State Museum for First Thursday in February! The last admission is taken at 7:00 PM.
JUMP (Jack’s Urban Meeting Place) – JUMP’s First Thursday reception will be held on February 6th, from 5pm-9pm in the JUMP lobby. Local Boisean Danica Thurber will be the featured artist of the month. Her work focuses on a subject that often makes it hard to “Love Yourself”: the experience of grief and loss.
Thurber will display a collection of her artwork throughout the years, as well as a small sample of art projects that she teaches in her grief art workshops. There will also be worksheets and coloring pages available, as well as other activities that JUMP provides for adults and children of all ages.
Thurber’s work will continue on display all month long.
Re-pop gifts – This month’s featured artist is Ed Watson of Anchor Arts. He’s a favorite at all the local cons and has had his work featured in Cosplay Culture Magazine. Ed will be bringing in additional artwork and doing a demo of techniques he uses to transform an ordinary costume prop to a cosplay masterpiece. Refreshments will be served.
Water Bear Bar – This month’s First Thursday beneficiary is Boise Bicycle Project! $3 from every Old Fashioned of the Day sold on Thursday, February 6th from 4 pm-close benefits the local non-profit.
