Boise Phil's Chamber 4 Concert

Boise , Idaho

Egyptian Theatre

Grab a drink and mingle with our talented musicians as we end this season's Uncorked Series with a bang! For our final chamber concert of the season, we spotlight an assortment of contemporary music inspired by jazz. Gershwin’s beloved Lullaby for string quartet showcases Gershwin’s melodic genius. Shostakovich’s Suite for Jazz Orchestra No. 1, inspired by popular café music, is complete with lilting saxophones, sliding trombones, a Hawaiian guitar, and subtle humor. American composer Derek Bermel’s Three Rivers is constructed of three rhythmic currents, flowing both separately and together. A fast bop section of the third brings the piece to an exhilarating climax. Milhaud wrote his enduring music for the ballet La création du monde in 1923. Leonard Bernstein summarized: “The Creation of the World emerges not as a flirtation but as a real love affair with jazz.” Lullaby by George Gershwin Suite for Jazz Orchestra, No. 1 by Dmitri Shostakovich Three Rivers by Derek Bermel La creation du monde, op. 81 by Darius Milhaud Our Uncorked Series features the Boise Phil Chamber Players in an up close and personal setting, enhanced by beer, wine and laid-back Sunday afternoons. Come an hour early and stay behind an hour late to get to know these amazing musicians and others in the Boise music community.
